This is another book that I received as a birthday gift back in December, but I only just got around to reading it. I read some Meg Cabot when I was younger (what girl hasn't read The Princess Diaries) and I really liked her styles, Avalon High being one of my favourite books as a child.
Although Cabot is a very talented writer who is able to grasp a readers attention and keep it for the entirety of the book, some of her story lines are lacking. Meena was a well written character but the simple fact is, none of the events of her life were realistic. After meeting Lucien for a mere few minutes, she finds herself falling in love. I agree that there can be an immediate attraction between two people, but the love that developed between Meena and Lucien was very unbelievable. Following this, her attraction to Alaric just goes beyond ridiculous. The characters themselves are brilliant, but the plots just aren't.
I wouldn't recommend this book unless you really love Meg Cabot as it leaves a lot to be desired, but the bad story line is saved by Cabot's ability to write well.
